Dizziness Treatment

Before dizziness treatment, you may experience:

• Fainting
• Weakness
• Fatigue
• Confusion
• Motion sickness
• Nausea or vomiting
  

There are many different causes of dizziness.  Dizziness can be caused by inner ear conditions, BPPV, Meniere's disease, vestibular migraines, anxiety, and other health conditions such as low or high blood pressure. 

Dizziness treatment also varies depending on the patient and cause.  Balance retraining exercises are typically used for dizziness treatment for inner ear conditions.  Balance training exercises used for dizziness treatement involves correcting the loss of balance using movements of the head and body.

Dizziness treatments are used to help with Meniere's disease by reducing the body's retention of fluids through use of diuretics.  Surgery is sometimes used as a dizziness treatment in patients with Meniere's disease.

Typically, dizziness treatment for patients with BPPV is canalith repositioning, which is a procedure performed by a doctor or physical therapist.  The doctor or physical therapist will position your head in order to move loose particles in the ear that are causing the dizziness. This dizziness treatment is 90% effective, however, must be repeated in some cases.

The preferred dizziness treatment for vestibular migraines is to avoid the triggers of the migraine.  Your doctor may suggest that you avoid certain foods, reduce stress, exercise regularly, or develop a regular sleep pattern.
